November Operation Hope

Hello Stratfield Family! As Thanksgiving is a time of togetherness and gratitude, please let's support our local families and help eliminate hunger.  Operation Hope has been so appreciative of our Stratfield volunteers, let's continue on in our generosity.  This is open SCHOOLWIDE for our November families to volunteer.

Please pack the dish in covered disposable foil pans, labeled with what it is and with any reheating directions.

Meals and gift cards can be dropped off directly to Operation Hope (50 Nichols Street) by 2:00PM or to Sara Hardy (95 Buena Vista Road) by 10:00AM, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH.  Also accepting Venmo's (@Sara-Hardy-14).

As always, thank you for your support.

Candy Wrapper Recycling is back! The Green (Team) Monster is in the hallway by the Office. The monster eats candy wrappers! Some of you already fed him at Trunk or Treat. To participate, collect empty candy wrappers over the next couple of weeks (hint: just use the bag your bulk candy comes in), and send them into school with your child so they can feed the monster.

Please DO include any plastic/foil wrappers! Even the bags the candy comes in can be included this year.

This box canNOT accept paper-based wrappers (think the paper liner from peanut butter cups, Nerds boxes, etc). Also, no lollipop sticks please.

Thank you! - The Green Team

Upcoming Free Event Alert!

Tired of spending $$$ year after year on snowsuits and snow boots that barely get worn? Let's swap! Bring in what no longer fits, and take home something that does. Clothing swaps are good for your wallet, and good for our planet. See below for details, and email allyson.mcgrath@gmail.com with any questions. See you on November 15th!

Stratfield PTA forms Digital Wellness Committee, announces first events of the year

Fairfield's Digital Wellness initiative shares information so parents can make informed choices about our children and the digital world they live in, including social media, screen time, and connected devices.  Thank you to Lori Tiedje for heading up this initiative at Stratfield and representing our school among all the other PTAs across Town that are doing the same.  Get in touch, if you want to also be involved.  Here are a few events and resources to get the ball rolling.

Thurs, Nov. 7th @ 6:30 pm -- Ok to Delay Launch Event at Fairfield Public Library

Ok to Delay is a national movement whose mission is to unite parents who share a concern about the effects of early and excessive use of social media and smartphones, and is dedicated to building a community of informed and empowered parents who will delay giving their kids smartphones. Fairfield's Ok to Delay chapter will host a digital wellness event to hear from experts and launch this conversation in our community. Registration opens on Thursday 10/17. Register here.

Also, be sure to fill out this form to be added to Ok to Delay Fairfield's newsletter for local events and information: Ok to Delay Fairfield Supporters.  And follow the conversation on Facebook.

Library Media Center Volunteers Needed

Looking for a great way to get involved and help out at Stratfield? Consider volunteering in the Library Media Center! As a volunteer, you will help students select and check out books, shelve books, and help with special projects.

Volunteer shifts are Monday-Friday from 10:30am-11:30am or 2pm-3pm.

This is a great way to interact with students and teachers. If you are interested in volunteering in the library please contact Katharine Schafer at klschafer@gmail.com

Please consider joining us for a Charity Kickball Game in support of Lucas Spear, a first grader who is courageously battling cancer. This is a great opportunity for our community to come together in a supportive and fun way! You can learn more about Lucas’ journey by clicking the link on the flyer. All proceeds will be split between Lucas’ Go Fund Me page, and Tommy’s Fund, which provides help and hope for cancer patients.

We hope to see you there!

Respectfully,

Brett Conner and Shannon Pascone
